A train-the-trainer model for expanding the reach of infection prevention expertise
What is a CHIP? A CHIP is a frontline healthcare worker who has undergone additional infection prevention and control (IPC) training to act as an extension of an IPC program. A CHIP team is a group of these employees who work together to improve patient safety, limit the spread of infections, and improve compliance of IPC practices within their facility.

Introduction to CHIP serves as a roadmap to start a train-the-trainer program at your facility.
Module Objectives
As a result of this module, you will be able to do the following:
Describe the role of a CHIP within their institution.
Describe the CHIP program’s responsibility to adhere to evidenced-based prevention strategies and the execution of these strategies within their institution.
Discuss how to implement the principles of the CHIP program.
Describe the learner’s responsibility to monitor infection prevention and control practices of the medical and ancillary personnel and intervene as necessary to assure compliance and safety.
